March...ing in like a Lion...
Good Morning,
Hope this Saturday finds you well...
We are headed back to the deep freeze after yet another round of snow!
I hear Paul scraping snow off the roof, so I'm sure this pile has grown.
It's beautiful, but a hassle trying to drive around the city...
a good excuse to stay in...
to make soup...
and putter around the studio.
I've been organizing the wool shelves and discovered some beauties I had forgotten about.
I'll be making new bundles and putting them in the ETSY shop soon:)
but before I do that...
I want to share a few of my students rugs from the MCFTA Student Show...
Lisa hooked this adaptation of 1885 Horses...a Woolley Fox pattern...#8 cut wool on Monk's Cloth
Debi hooked this stunning butterfly...
her own design...and her FIRST rug after her little beginner mat!
mostly #8 wool cut on linen...with a bit of black and white nylon stockings.
There are still openings in my Spring II class...
visit the Minnetonka Center for the Arts website for info... Stay warm...think Spring...and have a great weekend! ~Laurie

Golden leaves on the boulevard…
Summer moved a little closer to Autumn. I can hardly believe it…but this IS a sign of the glory to come!
There were hints of Autumn in the early morning and evening breezes for a week or so before I left…and we saw many trees on the verge of turning on our drive thru 5 states.
And so it’s time to register for Fall Classes…
There is still space in my Folk Art Rug Hooking class beginning Wednesday, September 5th at Minnetonka Center for the Arts
This is an all-level class meeting Wednesdays from 1-4pm

Happy New Year Everyone...sure is a cold start, but glad the days are getting longer
I've been down with a cold/fever for a few days...feeling a bit better today...but still a few random sneezes.
Hibernating with homemade soup, tea, Netflix and knitting a new sweater...a re-run of one I made over 15 years ago.
That one was a cotton/wool blend.
This time 100% wool in my favorite olivey green!
Thanks for stopping by...take care...stay warm...be well ~ L

Autumn Sundown...
Probably our last 70 degree temps for the next 6 months or more.
And definitely a distraction to the work I was doing in the studio...
Yet a GREAT source of inspiration
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend...

Autumn in the Air…
I noticed a tinge of gold on the trees across the way…
A tangible sign of the glory to come!
There have been hints of Autumn in the early morning or evening breezes the past few weeks…
but this colorful clue is a delight!
The summer flew by and my time in the studio continues to be limited,
Fall classes at Minnetonka Center for the Arts begin in a week and half:)
I’m finishing up a rug commission and about to start a few pillows for another client,
but first I need to detour and stitch this little gift for a sweet couple that will be getting married soon!
Thanks for visiting ~ enjoy these summer days ~ Laurie

And so the Season begins...
Very happy to part of this wonderful event.
I'll have lots of SnowFolk looking for new homes...
many punch needle brooches...and a few hooked mats!

Stitching Therapy…
an old army blanket slowly being transformed into a autumn bed topper…easy to pick up and stitch for a minute here and there…
The summer has flown by. I drove Nick back to ISU last week. I’m so excited for him…all his hard work last year in the core design program paid off…he is now in the architecture program! Living his dream…as anyone who came to the studio years ago would know…browsing for wool amidst Lego towers;) The house is quiet again…and I miss him…but my hours are still filled with caring for Mom & Dad…and keeping up with commissions and orders!
The past few evenings I enjoyed a little needle & thread therapy and stitched this sweet sewing caddy from Rebekah L Smith’s phenomenal book “Wool Applique Folk Art”.
This great, new book flew out of the studio. I’ve had more copies on order for weeks, hoping they arrive soon! There is a Facebook group…Wooly Stitchers… a small group of stitcher’s working our way thru the projects in this wonderful book…
Our first project was “Wooly Windows”… I stitched my runner using naturally dyed wools…most dyed by my sweet friend Kris from her bountiful garden’s harvest! The perfect pairing for my black walnut dyed backgrounds.
I’m not sure what I’ll stitch next…but it is good for me to put aside “my WORK handwork” now and then and just play!
Taking this as a positive sign…
the last 2 times I’ve had Chinese take-out I’ve gotten the same fortune…
I’ve accepted a faculty position at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts
more information to come…
but my classes will start the first week of January 2016!
Enjoy these late summer days…the smell of autumn is already in the air!
~Laurie
