  2. Thanks for the giveaway! The pincushion is lovely! We love apples here and my favorite quickie recipe is to cut an apple into slices, sprinkle it with a little cinnamon, and microwave until the apples are tender. Then eat! It's quick and yummy! :0)

  9. Laurie,
Your newsletter is always a treat packed with so many bits of knowledge I spend a long time on it. I would love to have one of your apple pincushions. With 2 small dogs, I am always scared they will find that one pin I dropped.

Since we aren't in apple season here, I will have to think about what I do with them when I do buy them. Florida isn't known for its apple crops, so I'll have to get back with you.

Please consider me as a name in the hat for the pincushion. Thanks,
    trisha

I have a great Apple Crunch recipe.
6 cups sliced tart apples, peeled
    1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 to 1 cup sugar, depending on tartness of apples
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 egg
    1/3 cup melted butter
    1/3 tsp ground cinnamon

Butter 8 inch square baking dish. Arrange sliced apples in the baking dish.
In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and egg; blend well. Sprinkle mixture over apples. Drizzle melted butter evenly over crumb mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve warm, with ice cream or whipped topping.
    ENJOY!!!

  20. I'd love to win your giveaway!
One of my favorite things to do with apples is:
slice thinly, saute in a little butter until soft, stir in a sprinkle of cinnamon and the tiniest amount of brown sugar, and top your morning bowl of oatmeal with them. They elevate the healthy, boring, bowl of oats into something worth waking up for. :)

Here's a recipe my mom used to make for my sister and me when we were little:
    Baked Apples

    -Preheat oven 350
-Cut the core out of however many apples you'd like.
-Stuff the hole with brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins, and any other favorite spices
-Bake for awhile, until apples are soft
    -Eat and enjoy - yummm...

  33. Oh that's a beautiful pin-keep. Could you please count me in on the drawing? I've added your link to my blog: http://jellybeanstitches.blogspot.com/2009/08/one-mini-quilt-top-done.html

My favorite apple recipe is to peel an apple, core it all the way through, and take 2 pieces of dough (can be pie dough, that's good), lightly coat the bottom one with butter, place the cored apple in the center, fill the center with brown sugar, 2-4 cloves and then lightly spread butter, sugar and brown sugar over the apple. Then put the other piece of dough on top of the apple and press to the bottom piece. Take a knife and make an X in the top. Bake it for about 10-20 minutes at 350 degrees F. It's so good!

  37. Just happened to stop by and couldn't resist your giveaway!! Please count me in.
As for my fave apple recipe, I would have to say it's homemade applesauce. We have several apple trees in our yard and the windfalls make heavenly applesauce - enjoy!
Simply cut up your apples and dump in a pot on the stove, peels, cores and all. Add a little water (not much, the apples will cook down and if you add too much it will become soupy). Cook on low - watch it and keep stirring, as the apples will burn if you're not careful. When they are cooked down, run them through a Foley foodmill (this is why you don't have to peel or core). Voila - yummy applesauce. Add a little sugar and cinnamon to taste - this really varies, so you just have to keep tasting. There you go - this freezes well too.
